I thought the mini turbo engine was the Citreon / Pug engine?Ĭan the mini chassis cope with more than 250bhp? I'd have thought a GT25 would be more sensible. On road I tend to change up at 3500rpm as I don't want to the sudden 100lbs more torque coming on boost. On a road car it'd be a bit crap, nothing, nothing and bang. I like my big turbo but my cars a track car, whenever its driven its above 5000rpm and bouncing off the limiter. i.e my car + Disco Potato at 12 psi + bar & plate front mount intercooler the charge in the manifold is basically ambient, some one trying to create the same horse power with a piddly little TD04 will be struggling to keep charge temps reasonable having to mess about with water injection etc.Ĭan the mini chassis cope with more than 250bhp? I'd have thought a GT25 would be more sensible. Its always preferable in terms of engine safety to use a big turbo at the bottom of its efficiency range than a small turbo over its range. Hot air = big det risk and so big risk to engine. When you say "but i dont know how long the turbo would last" how do you mean? Turbos don't have a problem with pushing more air, what has the problem is the engine as the air becomes too hot as the turbos past its efficiency range. I cant comment on audi tt's but i can comment about the Mini Cooper S turbo and it is possible but i dont know how long the turbo would last and a k03 being able to run 300bhp is hardly its optimal flow rate but regardless of whether it would make even 270bhp maxed out, the fact is no1 with a sane mind is going to spend £800+ upgrading from a K03 to a gt2560r just for 30 more bhp, if you have a standard cooper S then the gt2560r would not only save money but would be a massive jump, but going from a near fully tuned K03 to gt2560r is nuts unless someone gave you the turbo for free.Įdited by Coopman on Thursday 12th February 16:47I thought the mini turbo engine was the Citreon / Pug engine? I didnt say i was at 300bhp, i said it was possible with a maxed out K03. Just check to compressor maps, unless the mini uses a REAL special K03, or is actually a K04?Having alot of bolt ons and a great remap helps massively. I am not sure how a K03 (s or otherwise) can make near 300hp on a 1.6, when on a 1.8T VW (20v) engine, they run out of puff at 240hp!?Ī K04 turbo on a 18T 20v, like on a TT quattro will max out at about 280hp according tot he compressor map! even the hybrid K04s will only do about 300 max.Ī disco potato vs a k04 will make min 50-60hp more, surely near 80-100hp more than a K03?
